The Plot: After being deemed unfit for military service during WWII, Steve Rogers (Evans) volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, the Sentinel of Liberty -- a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals. His first mission: to combat the Nazi propaganda effort headed by Johann Schmidt (Weaving), also known as the Red Skull.

THE BUZZ: While Captain America might not possess any superpowers, his origin story is one of the more interesting tales in the Marvel Universe. Director Joe Johnson promises a faithful starting point that will lead in new, original directions, and while normally that'd give us pause, co-writer Joss Whedon should keep the story arcs and dialogue injected with his patented serums. In terms of the overall movie, we like everything in front of us, from Evans (he's maturing well) and Johnson (Jon Favreau wasn't that great of a director before Iron Man), to the assembled cast and, of course, watching how the story connects to the greater whole. The only real questions we have: are young people going to be attracted to the WWII-era setting, and are we going to be more drawn to the menacing Red Skull, embodied by the all-powerful Hugo Weaving?
